All About February

So far, it has been a wonderful month! February is "my" month around here. All in one week (usually) I have a birthday, anniversary, and Valentine's Day.
Last year at this time I was in bed sick for a few weeks with pneumonia. It was awful. That made me appreciate this year even more. That and a renewed appreciation of my family. I already loved them dearly, but the last couple of years have made that fact even more apparent. I hope to be more intentional in the ways I show them how very special they are to me.
This February was very different than past years. I feel that at 41 I am so aware of how very blessed my life really is! I thought I knew this in my 20's, was unaware for most of my 30's, and I am totally aware of the fact that I am living my heart's desire in my 40's.
Thank you Jesus, Randy, and my kids for the life I always dreamed of. We all know it's not perfect, but what precious life lessons we are learning together. Good, bad, or even UGLY, I'm not trading any of our experiences for anything.
And that, friends, is what it is all about!

Starting Our Tenth Year of Homeschooling

We started our new year of school early this year. We usually start after (or on) Labor Day. This year the girls were ready to begin a week early. Summer activities are coming to a close and we are all ready for a change of pace. Kaitlyn is beginning 7th grade, Kyla is beginning 5th grade, and Aubree is a 2nd grader this year. We have spent the first two weeks as an introductory period. We are learning alot of new map skills with our new curriculum, My Father's World. We will begin studying North America next week. We will begin with the U.S., Mexico, then Canada. Some of our new activities for the school year will begin next week also. Kyla will begin her new dance class on Monday. Aubree will begin soccer practice on Tuesday. Her first game will be next Saturday. Kaitlyn is patiently waiting for basketball season. Another activity we are all excited about are Zoo classes. These will be held monthly throughout the school year.

Homeschooling Fun

I just realized I haven't written anything about our homeschool in quite a while. Other than our basics, Aubree is hugely interested in Native Americans. I went to one of my favorite free resources to supplement our studies. This is a site we turn to often to find lapbooking/notebooking pages. Her interest in studying Indians or Native Americans began with a penmanship book (Draw*Write*Now) that we started around Thanksgiving. After completing the lessons she still wanted to know more. Currently we are working on a lapbook based on the story, The Courage of Sarah Noble. We will follow with book studies on Pocahontas and Sign of the Beaver. We plan to make a teepee (Barbie size) and other crafts from the book More than Moccasins. This site also has a free resource based on the Iriquois Indians. Weekend!

I have spent alot of time doing some heavy reading! It has been wonderful and very thought provoking, but... I AM READY TO JUST HAVE FUN THIS WEEK! The girls and I are planning to do a little shopping, a little swimming, and a whole lot of relaxing this weekend. I can't wait. I'm also hoping to fit in a little bit of sewing. I'm a little behind on my goal of finishing at least one project per month. I have three projects in the works, so that should catch me up. I'm also contemplating this. I've been collecting vintage pillowcases for a couple of years. I was just waiting on the right project to catch my eye. I think this will be perfect. I'm looking forward to a wonderful weekend and I hope to have pictures to share.
