Sweet Summer

Our official school year is coming to a close. We have had such a busy year. I'm looking forward to some much needed down time. We will begin our RV adventure this week. I think the timing couldn't be better.
I have been having fun planning and decorating our new little space. The bedroom is only lacking some new little curtains. I have plans to begin the bedding in the girls' little bunk bed area. The table/booth and sofa may be re-upholstered later, if I feel ambitious.
I plan to keep this space very minimal but also homey. We will be spending about half of our time there. I want everyone to be able to relax and enjoy our time together.
I'm looking forward to spending lots of time this summer playing games, swimming, and just loving my family.

Starting Our Tenth Year of Homeschooling

We started our new year of school early this year. We usually start after (or on) Labor Day. This year the girls were ready to begin a week early. Summer activities are coming to a close and we are all ready for a change of pace. Kaitlyn is beginning 7th grade, Kyla is beginning 5th grade, and Aubree is a 2nd grader this year. We have spent the first two weeks as an introductory period. We are learning alot of new map skills with our new curriculum, My Father's World. We will begin studying North America next week. We will begin with the U.S., Mexico, then Canada. Some of our new activities for the school year will begin next week also. Kyla will begin her new dance class on Monday. Aubree will begin soccer practice on Tuesday. Her first game will be next Saturday. Kaitlyn is patiently waiting for basketball season. Another activity we are all excited about are Zoo classes. These will be held monthly throughout the school year.

Homeschooling Fun

I just realized I haven't written anything about our homeschool in quite a while. Other than our basics, Aubree is hugely interested in Native Americans. I went to one of my favorite free resources to supplement our studies. This is a site we turn to often to find lapbooking/notebooking pages. Her interest in studying Indians or Native Americans began with a penmanship book (Draw*Write*Now) that we started around Thanksgiving. After completing the lessons she still wanted to know more. Currently we are working on a lapbook based on the story, The Courage of Sarah Noble. We will follow with book studies on Pocahontas and Sign of the Beaver. We plan to make a teepee (Barbie size) and other crafts from the book More than Moccasins. This site also has a free resource based on the Iriquois Indians. Weekend!

I have spent alot of time doing some heavy reading! It has been wonderful and very thought provoking, but... I AM READY TO JUST HAVE FUN THIS WEEK! The girls and I are planning to do a little shopping, a little swimming, and a whole lot of relaxing this weekend. I can't wait. I'm also hoping to fit in a little bit of sewing. I'm a little behind on my goal of finishing at least one project per month. I have three projects in the works, so that should catch me up. I'm also contemplating this. I've been collecting vintage pillowcases for a couple of years. I was just waiting on the right project to catch my eye. I think this will be perfect. I'm looking forward to a wonderful weekend and I hope to have pictures to share.
