Dreamy Summer

Daydreamy that is...
As my husband and myself are approaching a certain age that is not considered youngsters, we find ourselves thinking hard and often about our future. We feel like now is the time (even though younger would have been better!) to really consider how we would like to live our older years together. We are young enough, and healthy enough, to make our future comfortable...if we work on it NOW.
We have some lofty goals to meet.

We have moved over fourteen times during our marriage. Most moves were job transfers. Because of the temporary timeline of some of these jobs, we made a decision to rent rather than buy. Renting was necessary until we were in a place we would "settle". Since we have been in our current area for about 5 1/2 years, I guess we are staying. We now find ourselves at a point in life where most of our peers may be paying off their mortgages, or close to it. We find ourselves just beginning. We are finally ready to buy.







We have located the perfect spot of land. We have so many great ideas to make this spot a wonderful place of memory making for our grandchildren. We are so excited. We find ourselves daydreaming over coffee in the mornings, finding awesome ideas on the internet in the afternoon, and continuing to talk about house plans as we lie down at night.







We will have to make a few sacrifices but the end result will be completely worth it. We have planned several different scenarios of temporary living quarters as we build our dream home. Thankfully I'm a country girl at heart. I'll welcome the adventure. Working on our own land and building a home will be a dream of a lifetime for us both.

Homeschooling Fun

I just realized I haven't written anything about our homeschool in quite a while. Other than our basics, Aubree is hugely interested in Native Americans. I went to one of my favorite free resources to supplement our studies. This is a site we turn to often to find lapbooking/notebooking pages. Her interest in studying Indians or Native Americans began with a penmanship book (Draw*Write*Now) that we started around Thanksgiving. After completing the lessons she still wanted to know more. Currently we are working on a lapbook based on the story, The Courage of Sarah Noble. We will follow with book studies on Pocahontas and Sign of the Beaver. We plan to make a teepee (Barbie size) and other crafts from the book More than Moccasins. This site also has a free resource based on the Iriquois Indians. Starting Our Tenth Year of Homeschooling

We started our new year of school early this year. We usually start after (or on) Labor Day. This year the girls were ready to begin a week early. Summer activities are coming to a close and we are all ready for a change of pace. Kaitlyn is beginning 7th grade, Kyla is beginning 5th grade, and Aubree is a 2nd grader this year. We have spent the first two weeks as an introductory period. We are learning alot of new map skills with our new curriculum, My Father's World. We will begin studying North America next week. We will begin with the U.S., Mexico, then Canada. Some of our new activities for the school year will begin next week also. Kyla will begin her new dance class on Monday. Aubree will begin soccer practice on Tuesday. Her first game will be next Saturday. Kaitlyn is patiently waiting for basketball season. Another activity we are all excited about are Zoo classes. These will be held monthly throughout the school year.
